HMS Ocean at Greenwich

Posted in England, London by folkestonejack on May 5, 2012

The amphibious assault ship HMS Ocean arrived at Greenwich on Friday to take part in the security exercise ‘Olympic Guardian’ ahead of this summer’s games, so I took a small detour on the way back from the Olympic Park to take a look before heading home. I joined a steady flow of onlookers marvelling at the sight of the warship and her array of helicopters and landing craft.

Other elements of the security plans for the games include missile batteries at various locations and Typhoons stationed at RAF Northolt (already audible, if not seen, over the skies of South London). If this is what is necessary to protect the games then I for one am glad to see them here.
