FolkestoneJack's Tracks

A bestiary for the 21st century

Posted in England, London by folkestonejack on February 8, 2014

The playful and distinctive street art of Phlegm has never failed to make me smile whenever I have stumbled across one of his epic murals on a wander in and around Brick Lane, but ‘The Bestiary’ on Shoreditch High Street is an altogether more intimate and unusual experience.

The Bestiary

The Bestiary

It really is quite something else to navigate your way past rows of bottled creatures, into the back room of the gallery, and find yourself surrounded on all sides by these incredible figures… just keep your eyes shut if you like birds and bunnies!

The free show runs until 4th March 2014 at the Howard Griffin Gallery, 189 Shoreditch High St, London. A glimpse into the delights of the bestiary can be seen in a selection of photographs published on Phlegm’s website at http://www.phlegmcomicnews.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-bestiary-show.html

Recently I noticed that there’s a huge Phlegm mural at the Southbank centre now – http://www.hookedblog.co.uk/2013/05/phlegms-new-south-bank-mural.html
