At the end of most railway trips I have compiled a book, for my own personal record. These usually include a selection of photos with the text from my blog. The text of each book can be previewed on the Bob Books platform using the links below.

I can’t claim that the photographs in these books are especially good, though I hope I continue to make progress and improve with each trip. In short – these books are in no way professional, featuring plenty of photographic repetition and no doubt many typos that have eluded me.


Steam in the Taurus Mountains – September 2015

A day-by-day account of a steam photo-charter in the Taurus Mountains in September 2015, hauled by the last operational steam loco in Turkey. The book is illustrated with photographs of the charter with kriegslok 56548 (ex DR 52 7429), modern traction and visits to Kayseri and Capadoccia at either end of the tour.

Metre gauge steam in Myanmar – January 2017

A day-by-day account and photographic record of a trip to Myanmar in January 2017 to see two classes of British-built steam locomotives (the 2-8-2 class YD and the 4-6-2 class YC) hauling chartered freight and passenger trains on the line between Bago, Pyuntaza and Mottama. The book also includes an account of cultural side-trips in Yangon (Rangoon) and to the Golden Rock.

Broad gauge steam in Sri Lanka – January-February 2018

A day-by-day account and photographic record of a trip to Sri Lanka in January/February 2018 to see two classes of steam locomotive hauling a chartered train over the mountains from Colombo Fort to Bandarawela: B2b 213 (Vulcan Foundry 3555/1922) and B1d 340 (“Frederick North”, Robert Stephenson 7155/1944). The book also includes photographs of cultural side-trips in Colombo and Kandy.
